The State of Anubhuti…
“When, through Divine Grace, the Grace of the Guru, or the revelation of the Self, Pure Awareness begins to unveil itself as one’s own essential nature…”
His sight begins to withdraw from the objects being seen —
that is, a state of seeing, yet not seeing…
His hearing begins to withdraw from the sounds being heard —
That is, a state of hearing, yet not hearing…
His mind begins to withdraw from memories and thoughts —
that is, a state of thinking, yet not thinking…
His intellect begins to withdraw from the objects of knowledge —
that is, a state of knowing, yet not knowing…
His form begins to withdraw from sensations and feelings —
that is, a state of feeling, yet not feeling…
Because, as an expression of Pure Awareness itself, he remains…
the Seer who cannot be seen,
the Hearer who cannot be heard,
the Thinker who cannot be thought of,
the Knower who cannot be known,
the experience which cannot itself be experienced.
This is what Yajnavalkya points to in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad:
“Na dṛṣṭer draṣṭāraṃ paśyeḥ…
Na śruteḥ śrotāraṃ śṛṇuyāḥ…”
“You cannot see the Seer;
you cannot hear the Hearer…”
Because He is the primordial Witness, the source of all knowing.
What is seen changes.
What is heard changes.
What is thought changes.
What is known changes.
What is felt changes.
But…
That Pure Awareness which knows all these
remains unchanged.
That is the subtle expression of the state of Anubhuti — direct inner realisation.
