Non-Expectation = Effort + Effortlessness

Non-Expectation = Effort + Effortlessness

When the state arises in which I can no longer point to myself as a separate entity called “I,” the veiling of individuality begins to dissolve, and awareness shines forth.

Or, when awareness reveals itself as it truly is, the very sense of pointing to oneself as a separate “I” naturally disappears.

The former is approached through effort;
The latter happens through Grace.

Grace cannot be attained by effort.
However, without effort, one cannot become receptive to Grace.

Therefore, the true significance of non-expectation is not the absence of effort. Rather, it is effort without the expectation of an outcome.

When one acts without expectation, a profound state gradually dawns:

Effort is being made, yet there is no sense of “I am making an effort.”

Action continues, but the doer-sense becomes absent.

When this state becomes steady and natural, effort and effortlessness cease to stand as two.

Then, without any further striving, Grace reveals itself as Pure Awareness—revealing itself by Itself.

At that moment, there is no longer a seeker seeking.
no separate doer performing,
and nothing to attain.

There is only Pure Awareness.
self-luminous and ever-present.
