“Sabka Malik Ek” (सबका मालिक एक) is a popular Hindi phrase meaning “one Lord for all” or “one God” and is a central tenet of the teachings of Shirdi Sai Baba, which emphasizes the unity of all religions, love, equality, and a spirit of service. Sai Baba used this phrase to convey the divinity within all human beings and taught that a spirit of service is service to God.
In the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, chapter 3:7:23, this “one Lord for all” experienced by Shirdi Sai Baba is proved by the words of Rishi Yajnavalkya.
Nanyo’to’sti srota: There is no hearer other than that. Nānyo’to’sti mantā: There is no thinker but that. Nānyo’to’sti vijñātā: There is no understander but that. So, if anyone thinks, it is that which thinks; if anyone hears, it is that which hears; if anyone sees, it is that which sees. If anyone understands anything, it is not you or I that understands; it is that which understands. If anyone does anything, it is that which does.
Eṣa ta ātmāntaryāmy amṛtaḥ: “This is the Self, God, Guru; this is the internal Ruler; this is the Reality. This is immortal.
If there is no other seer or knower besides God, then why and how does each individual become a separate seer and knower?
Merely uttering the word “Everything is shivamayam” and failing to realize the self that is inherently one with Shivamayam, the cause is the action that arises from seeing and knowing oneself as an individual with a distinct name and form.

நான்யோ’தோ’ஸ்தி ஸ்ரோதா: அதைத் தவிர வேறு கேட்பவர் இல்லை. நான்யோ’தோ’ஸ்தி மந்தா: அதைத் தவிர வேறு சிந்திப்பவர் இல்லை. நான்யோ’தோ’ஸ்தி விஜ்ஞாதா: அதைத் தவிர வேறு அறிபவர் இல்லை. எனவே, யாராவது சிந்தித்தால், அதுவே சிந்திக்கிறது; யாராவது கேட்டால், அதுவே கேட்கிறது; யாராவது பார்த்தால், அதுவே பார்க்கிறது. யாராவது எதையாவது புரிந்துகொண்டால், புரிந்துகொள்வது நீங்களோ நானோ அல்ல; அதுவே புரிந்துகொள்கிறது. யாராவது எதையாவது செய்தால், அதுவே செய்கிறது.
ஏஷ த ஆத்மாந்தர்யாமி அம்ருதஹ: “இதுவே ஆன்மா, கடவுள், குரு; இதுவே உள்ளிருந்து ஆள்பவர்; இதுவே உண்மை. இது அழியாதது.
கடவுளைத் தவிர வேறு காண்பவரோ அல்லது அறிபவரோ இல்லை என்றால், ஒவ்வொரு தனிமனிதனும் ஏன், எப்படி ஒரு தனிப்பட்ட காண்பவராகவும் அறிபவராகவும் ஆகிறான்?
“எல்லாம் சிவமயம்” என்ற வார்த்தையை வெறுமனே உச்சரித்துவிட்டு, உள்ளார்ந்த சிவமயத்துடன் ஒன்றிணைந்திருக்கும் ஆன்மாவை உணராமல் போவதற்குக் காரணம், தன்னை ஒரு தனிப்பட்ட பெயரும் உருவமும் கொண்ட தனிமனிதனாகப் பார்ப்பதாலும் அறிவதாலும் எழும் செயல்தான்.
