The soul shines by itself: Whatever arises within everyone without our effort, that would be the soul. That which arises is as the thought ‘I.’. As stated in the Ashtavakra Gita, Chapter 2, Verse 2, “As I alone provide light to this body, so I do to the world. As a result, the whole world is mine, or alternatively, nothing is…”

This ‘I’ shines within each person as the soul, the self, and it is this that gives light to their bodies, and through it illuminates the world and makes them see it.

It does not need anything else to know who I am:
If so, this body, which includes the five organs that have the five respective senses, the mind, the intellect, the prana, and the bliss that are illuminated by this, the name that body has, and the worlds known by these, are all mine, or nothing is mine. That is, if everything that exists is as “I am” or “nothing is I am,” then the real “I,” the soul itself, is revealed and known.

“ஆன்மா சுயமாக ஒளிர்கிறது. தன்னை அறிய அதற்கு வேறு எதுவும் தேவையில்லை.” – ஸ்ரீ ரமண மகரிஷி, பேச்சு 146

ஆன்மா சுயமாக ஒளிர்கிறது: ஒவ்வொருவர் உள்ளும் எது ஒன்று எம் முயற்சியும் இல்லாமல் வெளிப்படுகின்றதோ அதுவே ஆன்மா என்பதாகிறது. அவ்வாறு எழுவது ‘நான்’ என்ற எண்ணமே ஆகும்.

அஷ்டவக்ர கீதை அத்தியாயம் 2 சுலோகம் 2ல், “நான்’ ஒருவனே இந்த உடலுக்கு ஒளி கொடுப்பது போல, உலகத்திற்கும் ‘நான்’ ஒளி தருகிறேன். இதன் விளைவாக, முழு உலகமும் என்னுடையது, அல்லது எதுவும் என்னுடையது அல்ல.” என்று சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளது போல…

இந்த ‘நான்’ என்பதே ஒவ்வொருவர் உள்ளும் ஆன்மாவாக, சுயமாக ஒளிர்கிறது, இதுவே அவரவர்களின் உடலுக்கு ஒளியை கொடுத்து அதன் மூலம் உலகத்தையும் ஒளிர்வித்துக் காண்பிக்கின்றது.

யார் இந்த நான் என்பதை அறிய அதற்கு வேறு எதுவும் தேவையில்லை:

அவ்வாறெனில் இதனால் ஒளிர்விக்கப்படும்  ஐம்புலன்கள், ஐம்பொறிகள், மனம், புத்தி, பிராணன், ஆனந்தம் இவைகளை உள்ளடக்கிய இவ்வுடலும்,  இவ்வுடல்  கொண்ட பெயரும்,  இவைகளால் அறியப்படும் இவ்வுலகங்களும், போன்ற இவையாவும்  என்னுடையவை அல்லது எதுவும் என்னுடையது அன்று, அதாவது ‘எல்லாமே நான் அல்லது எதுவும் நான் அன்று’  என்று இருக்கும்போது, ஆன்மாவாகிய உண்மையான ‘நான்’ தானே வெளிப்பட்டு அறியப்படுகிறது.
