Kabir Das vs. Adi Shankara
“Now I have no caste, no religion; I am no more what I was!” says Sant Kabir. How can everyone make such an idea possible in practice?
In the Nirvana Sataka, Sri Adi Shankara gives a detailed explanation of the phrase: “I am no more what I was!” What are the features of my false identity as I was before I ceased to be?
Neither am I the mind nor intelligence nor ego.
Neither am I the organs of hearing (ears), nor that of tasting (tongue), smelling (nose), or seeing (eyes).
Neither am I the sky nor the earth, neither the fire nor the air.
Neither am I the vital breath, nor am I the five vital airs.
Neither am I the seven ingredients (of the body) nor the five sheaths (of the body).
Neither am I the organ of speech nor the organs for holding (hand), movement (feet), or excretion.
I do not have a father or mother, nor was I born.
Neither do I have relations nor friends; neither am I a spiritual teacher nor a disciple.
Only by removing all of the foregoing false identities, which naturally don’t exist in everyone’s deep slumber, will everyone be able to overcome caste restrictions and disparities. That is, “No caste, no religion, and so no war.”
“சாதி இல்லை, மதம் இல்லை, அதனால் போர் இல்லை.”
கபீர்தாசரும், ஆதிசங்கரரும்
“இப்போது எனக்கு சாதி இல்லை, மதம் இல்லை; நான் என இருந்தது இப்போது இல்லை!” என்று சந்த் கபீர் கூறுகிறார். எல்லோரும் இதை நடைமுறையில் எப்படி சாத்தியமாக்க முடியும்?
நிர்வாண சதகத்தில் “நான் என இருந்தது இப்போது இல்லை!” என்ற சொற்றொடருக்கு ஸ்ரீ ஆதி சங்கரர் விரிவான விளக்கத்தை அளிக்கிறார். நான் இருந்தது இல்லாமல் போவதற்கு முன்பு, நான் என இருந்த எனது தவறான அடையாளத்தின் அம்சங்கள் யாவை?
நான் மனமோ, அறிவோ, அகங்காரமோ அல்ல.
நான் கேட்கும் (காதுகள்), சுவைக்கும் (நாக்கு), முகரும் (மூக்கு), பார்க்கும் (கண்கள்) உறுப்புகளும் அல்ல.
நான் வானமோ, பூமியோ, நெருப்போ, காற்றோ அல்ல.
நான் உயிர் மூச்சோ, ஐந்து உயிர் காற்றுகளோ அல்ல.
நான் (உடலின்) ஏழு பொருட்களோ, ஐந்து உறைகளோ அல்ல.
நான் பேச்சு உறுப்பு அல்ல, (கை) பிடிப்பதற்கும், இயக்கத்திற்கும் (கால்) அல்லது வெளியேற்றத்திற்கும் (வெளியேற்றத்திற்கும்) உறுப்பும் அல்ல.
எனக்கு தந்தையோ, தாயோ இல்லை, நான் பிறக்கவில்லை.
எனக்கு உறவினர்களோ, நண்பர்களோ இல்லை; நான் ஒரு ஆன்மீக குருவும் இல்லை, சீடனும் இல்லை.
அனைவரின் ஆழ்ந்த உறக்கத்திலும் இயல்பாகவே இல்லாத, இத்தகைய மேற்கூறிய அனைத்து தவறான அடையாளங்களையும் நீக்குவதன் மூலம் மட்டுமே,
“சாதியும் மதமும் சமயமும் காணா
ஆதி அநாதியாம் அருட்பெருஞ்ஜோதி” என்று வள்ளல் பெருமான் தம் அருட்பெருஞ்ஜோதி அகவலில் பாடி உள்ளபடி,
சாதிக் கட்டுப்பாடுகளையும் ஏற்றத்தாழ்வுகளையும் அனைவரும் வெல்ல முடியும். அதனால் எங்கும் சமாதானம் நிலவும்.
