There is someone looking after us from behind the curtain. In reality, the image of our body that we see is not us; it is our shadow. -Rumi
Interpretation:
Rishi Yajnavalkya explains this ‘Pure Existence’ attribute that exists behind the curtain for every one of us in Brihadaranyaka Upanishad in 3.7.23.
‘ He’s unseen, but seeing; unheard, but hearing; unperceived, but perceiving; unknown, but knowing. Beyond him, there is no other seer, hearer, perceiver, or knower. This is the soul, the inner ruler, the immortal. Everything else is a shadow of the soul.’
To attain such spiritual power, one must comprehend the fundamental essence of all perceptions that arise from one’s panchakoshas, which include the body, mind, intellect, prana, and ecstasy.
This understanding is achieved through the panchakosha shadows, where one fully comprehends that the soul-light concealed behind the screen is the ultimate force. In that self-revealing light, all panchakosha shadows will condense and become one with the light. That is, shadows will become the true ones.

திரைக்குப் பின்னால் இருந்து நம்மைப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார் ஒருவர். உண்மையில், நாம் பார்க்கும் நம் உடம்பின் உருவம் நாம் அல்ல; இது நம்முடைய நிழல். -ரூமி

அவர் காணப்படாமல் காண்பவர், கேட்கப்படாமல் கேட்பவர், நினைக்கப்படாமல் நினைப்பவர், அறியப்படாமல் அறிபவர்; அவரைக் காட்டிலும் வேறாகக் காண்பவர், கேட்பவர், உணருபவர் அல்லது அறிந்தவர் இல்லை. இது ஆன்மா, உள் ஆட்சியாளர், அழியாதது. மற்ற அனைத்தும் ஆன்மாவின் நிழல்.
இத்தகைய ஆன்ம சக்தியை உணர ஒருவர் தம் பஞ்ச கோஷங்களின் வாயிலாக அதாவது உடல், மனம், புத்தி, பிராணன், ஆனந்தம் இவைகளின் வாயிலாக வெளிப்படும் அனைத்து உணர்வுகளுக்கும் மூலசக்தியாக விளங்குவது, அதாவது நிழல்களான பஞ்சகோஷங்களுக்கும் ஆதாரமாக விளங்குவது திரைமறைவில் இருக்கும் ஆன்மஒளி சக்தியே என்று முழுமையாக உணரும்போது, தாமே வெளிப்படும் அவ்வொளியில் அனைத்து பஞ்சகோஷ நிழல்களும் ஒடுங்கி மறைந்து போய்விடும். அதாவது, நிழல்கள் நிஜமாக மாறும்.
