When the light returns to its source?

“When the light returns to its source, it takes nothing from what it has illuminated.” Sufi saint Hazrath Rumi

Rumi refers to this light as Atman’s (self’s) light, which exists in everyone’s heart. This light is responsible for the brightness of everyone’s body and, through it, the entire world.

In other words, the soul light that dwells in everyone’s heart is the source of the body and world that people see and feel when awake. When the soul’s light departs the waking state and enters the dream state, it does not take back the bright body and world that it previously lit.

In the dream state, it instead produces and illuminates another body and world. When the dream state fades, the soul light does not take with it the body and world that it lit in the dream state, as it does in the waking state.

When it passes through these two stages of waking and dreaming and enters profound sleep, this soul lights without taking these two bodies and worlds illuminated by it and spontaneously glows by itself, but in an unaware state.

One can be eternally happy knowing that one who is aware that they are in the form of light is not going to take away anything they have themselves illuminated if, as Hazrat Rumi realized, the unknown soul light is aware in everyone’s waking state.
